Bog Snorkelling

The World Bog Snorkelling Championships returned to Waen Rhydd bog after missing the last 2 years because of Covid restrictions. The sun shone all day and this great and unique event returned with a bang. There were 160 competitors who braved the bog, and the World Alternative team held wife carrying, husband dragging, ditch running, and the children’s bog. In the main bog the world record holder, Neil Rutter, was fastest again in a time of 1min 20 sec, missing out on his world record by 2 seconds. As always many people entered the bog in fancy dress and this is one of the reasons that makes it such a fun day. We also had a visit from the BBC weatherman, Derek Brockway, who sportingly took the plunge in the bog. He also stayed and presented the prizes.
